Richard Bogusz was born in Europe in 1947 to German/Polish parents who immigrated to Australia when Richard was five. His artistic talent blossomed early, gifted with a natural ability to draw and an abundant imagination. He began painting professionally in the 1970’s. A move to Townsville in 1986 with wife Barbara and his family enabled him to embrace the clear, bright colours which would be a refreshing contrast to the greys and browns of earlier works.
In 2001 he moved to Brisbane where he continued to paint his imaginative, narrative works with his girls in bright dresses interacting with the birds and landscape which are instantly recognized as a ‘Bogusz’.
More recently, his work has evolved, retaining elements of his former styles, including birds, animals and tropical landscapes, but with a greater simplicity and spontaneity.
