Artist: John Pearson

Born and educated in South Africa, John worked as a secondary school art teacher before spending two years as an artist in the advertising industry. He came to Australia in 1986 and completed an MBA the following year at the University of Western Australia. He then worked as a marketing manager for twelve years, following on to owning and operating two art galleries and a framing business in Perth for fifteen years. In 2012 John moved to the Sunshine Coast where he is now a full time professional artist.
John interprets the Australian landscape, capturing its subtleties of light using a spontaneous technique in oils and acrylics. His landscape paintings capture a quietness and sense of contemplation.
“My key objective is to create a ‘painting’, not merely reproduce a scene. I endeavour to create an artwork that is a piece of ‘reality’ itself. My paintings are naturalistic in essence but are becoming more impressionistic.”
In 2013, John won the Pinjarra Art Prize for oils and acrylics in Western Australia. He was also a finalist in the prestigious Kenilworth Art Prize.
